relationships & social dynamics
- West Interpersonal Perception Lab: Dr. West focuses on the nature and dynamics of social perception (see also Kenny's webpage). This includes whether our current goals alter how we view others, whether certain characteristics are more accurately detectable, and the manner in which interpersonal perceptions facilitate coordination among group members. Read Dr. West's Truth and Bias Model of Judgment for a useful overview of the mechanisms that go into accurate person perceptions.
- Caryl Rusbult: Relationships permeate our existence; we are born into, pursue, and live on in the lives of others. Dr. Rusbult dedicated her life to legitimating the study of relationships as a unique psychological discipline. Drawing upon Kelly and Thibaut's social interdependent theory, Dr. Rusbult developed many generative theories on relationship commitment, accommodation, and affirmation. Her work is unique in that it emphasizes the ongoing processes both partners use to maintain and promote a relationship. This includes investing time, creating equity, and shifting personal motives to coordinate with and get along with one another. Visit her page to learn more!
